Pay their Way
Copayment Assistance

2010 Update

This year has been a struggle for us.  We have had two new events that helped us to raise funds, we are struggling with donations, as the tolls of the economy continue to touch our donors.

We are looking for volunteer's; who can assist us in raising the funding needed to support ALL of our patients.  Our outreach into Union County earlier this year has found us in need of a team of volunteers in the Kenilworth area; to help Melissa Rosa who continue her struggle with Cancer.

If you or someone you know would like to join our team; please contact us at info@friendsofsuzanne.com

1st Annual Walking with Friends

Middlesex County
Woodbridge High School
June 8, 2010

When Kate Elliott asked Principal Warren if the she could hold a walk-a-thon to benefit cancer patients, he advised her she would need a faculty advisor, and would need details prior to giving an answer.

When Kate went to Physical Education teacher, Norma Grasso with her idea, and showed her our website, she was impressed and immediately on board.

On June 8, 2010 Woodbridge High School hosted the event, with 42 students participating, as well as several faculty members.
The event raised about $800 and those funds will be used to begin "Pay their Way" at Robert Wood Johnson's cancer center.

Thank you to the Barron's for their hospitality,
Mr Warren and Ms Grasso,
all of the faculty and students who helped make the day a success!

We are honored, and excited at our expansion into Middlesex County!

Update - Christmas Eve copay day helped 21 patients - and New Year's Eve helped 15
Total for 2009 = 145

December 2009

As the year comes to a close, we need to stop and say thank you to the wonderful donors we have met throughout the year.

Today we were graced with yet another wonderful sign of support from a patient, who ran the NY Marathon; a cancer survivor who was so touched and appreciative of the support we had shown during her own personal journey.  The funding she raised totalled $774.00 which will be used to fund Pay their Way and should be able to help between 20 and 30 patients.

Life is so precious, we need to grab hold of the moment, live in the moment and appreciate all the blessings bestowed upon us.

As we enter the holiday season, we need to remember those we have lost over the last five years and say a prayer for their families.  We also need to stop and be thankful that our journey; helping those living with cancer has allowed us to meet so many wonderful people.  We are the ones who are blessed because we are allowed to be a part of one of the most private, intimate and life altering journeys a person can take.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your life; and thank you to each and every supporter who has helped us continue our mission.

2009

November was a great month for us!  We sold our wooden roses at two events, and were able hold Pay their Way twice this month, helping 39 patients.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The economy has taken its toll on all of us.   We are really behind with Pay their Way, but we have been helping three local families directly.

Kearsten and George have both received $1500.  Hillary will receive $1000 as of now, and on Nov 1st we are meeting a new patient who will need support.

Please help us as we continue to offer this much needed support especially as we begin to enter the holiday season.

Dec 2008

Pay their Way copay day was held on Dec 24 and we are still awaiting the number of patients from the cancer center.  We hope to be able to hold one more day before year end; possibly on New Year's Eve.  We also dropped off candy baskets and roses for the patients.  We gave the staff candle jars; for all of their help and assistance - without them we would not be able to execute our copay days.

Nov 2008

Pay their Way copay day was held on Nov 21 for HRCC & Nov 24 for HHO.  During the two day event, our support this month reached 38 patients.

We also dropped off 4 gift cards for Holiday assistance to families who are struggling during this time of economic crisis.

During Nov we provided $1900 which went directly to the patients.

June 2008

Pay their Way copay day was held on June 9.  Our support this month reached 40 patients.

May 2008

Pay their Way copay day was held on May 9.  Our support this month reached 33 patients.

April 2008

Pay their Way copay day was held on April 18.  This month we were able with your continued support to assist 25 patients.

March 2008

Pay their Way copay day was held on Friday March 28.  With your continued support we were able to assist 32 patients.

February 2008

Valentines day was our first Pay their Way event for 2008.  Because of your generosity, we were able to pick up copayments for 20 patients.  What a wonderful sign of compassion, on a day that is designated for "love".  Thank you for your assistance so that we can offer this program.

January 2008

Happy New Year

We missed this holding this in January due to year end close.  Our goal is to be able to hold this event monthly during 2008 . . . . we need your help to make it possible......

Brian P O'Rourke of the McStoker Driscoll Foundation called and asked if the foundation donated $500 could we use it for another Pay their Way day.  Mr O'Rourke stated that when he first heard about our program, he thought it was an excellent idea, and wanted to help us, continue holding it.

NOW we need YOUR help so that we can cover the co-payments for ALL patients.

Together we can make a difference. . .

The first event was held at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center

July 24, 2007 as we honored the memory of Loretta Milligan.

We were able to provide HRCC $ 2500 to cover the copayment's for all patients arriving for treatment.   With your donations, we were able to make the copayments for 43 patients.

Thank you on behalf of each patient assisted

"Much appreciation" was shown as each was advised that today they were given the news !

How many times have you asked what you can do, when you have learned that a friend, coworker or nieghbor has been diagnosed with cancer?   Each of us says we want to help, but we do not know what to do for them, we do not want to interfer or bother the patient or the family.  With this in mind and after learning that patients may be financially strapped we have received approval to hold "PAY THEIR WAY" copay day at Hunterdon.

We are actively raising money to hold a Co-Pay day at Hunterdon Regional Cancer.  The event will consist of paying the co-pays for patients who are receiving treatment (radiation or chemotherapy) at the facility.

Patients undergoing treatment are required to make copays for their treatments, and for many this means on a "daily" basis.  Payments can range anywhere from $5.00 to $100.00 per visit, and add stress and cause for concern to patients, who are already encountering changes in their lives.
